Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Goes Live with Trauma App to Improve Reporting.

In July 2023, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital successfully launched the Trauma App, a significant step in improving trauma care documentation and reporting. As a globally recognised leader in healthcare innovation, Alder Hey’s decision to implement the app highlights their commitment to using technology to enhance both patient care and operational efficiency.

Addressing Reporting Gaps with the Trauma App

Alder Hey had identified gaps in their reporting to the Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN), which meant they were missing vital information and access to the uplift tariff. Initially, the team considered developing their own solution but, after speaking with colleagues, they were pointed towards the Trauma App through a WhatsApp group. After learning more, they realised it was exactly what they needed.

A Collaborative Onboarding Effort

Trauma Nurse Leah Bradley and Trauma Coordinator Joanne Richardson led the onboarding of the app, despite having no prior experience in introducing a digital solution of this scale. Their hard work in navigating business cases and governance processes paid off when the app went live.

Joanne Richardson expressed the team’s excitement, saying: “It’s clear, easy and quick. The observation charts mean that staff can see trends in observations which is invaluable… As soon as staff can see how easy it is to use and how well it works, they are hooked!”

Collaboration with Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow

Alder Hey also played an important role in suggesting updates to the paediatric functionality of the Trauma App, collaborating closely with the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. This partnership has driven exciting developments in the app’s features and set the stage for continued improvements as the app becomes fully embedded in hospital practice. The commitment to refining the app ensures it evolves to meet the real-world needs of paediatric trauma care.

A Promising Future

The adoption of the Trauma App at Alder Hey not only addresses their reporting challenges but also enhances the way trauma care is documented. With the app now live, the hospital is well-equipped to meet TARN’s requirements and benefit from the uplift tariff.

We are proud to collaborate with a forward-thinking institution like Alder Hey, and we look forward to seeing the continued positive impact of the Trauma App on paediatric trauma care.
